Once in a while, a very special coffee comes along that transcends its particular taste characteristics to transport you to a memory of a special place and time.

Years ago, I had the great fortune to travel to Europe each spring for work. These were days of hectic travel and stressful meetings. But invariably, the trip fell around May Day, a holiday similar to Labor Day in the U.S. On May Day, everything stopped—workers were on holiday and many stores and museums were closed.

With all of Europe seemingly on hold, I was free. I would head to the closest Parisian café to sit, drink coffee, and people watch. I had time to savor every sip of the strong, robust coffee, and drink in the world around me.
